About Us

Helen Keller’s High School for the Deaf and Rehabilitation Centre, Kadapa is a voluntary organization. This organization has been serving since 1984 for Education, Rehabilitation and Manpower Development for the cause of Hearing Impaired Children. On the auspicious day of Helen Keller Birth Day on 27th June, 1984 Helen Keller’s School for the Deaf and Rehabilitation Centre is started in Kadapa with 1st class. Founder of this organization is Mr. P. Ummar Khan and General Secretary cum Correspondent is Late Mrs. P. Ramiza Bee. Dr. P. Dowlath Khan started working as Teacher in this organization from 01.06.1985. He worked as Teacher from 01.06.1985 to 31.05.1989. He promoted as Head Master and served in the same organization from 01.06.1989 to 31.05.1993. He promoted as Principal cum Co-ordinator and worked from 01.06.1993 to 31.05.2005. He also promoted as Principal cum Training Co-ordinator and has been working from 01.07.1997 to till to date in Helen Keller College of Special Education. In this college D.Ed. Spl. Ed. (HI) and B.Ed. Spl. Ed. (HI) Courses are conducting. Dr. P. Dowlath Khan became General Secretary cum Correspondent of this organization from 01.05.2005 and serving till to date. Mrs. M. Masuda Begum has been working since 01.06.1993 in this organization. She is the Principal cum Co-ordinator to Helen Keller’s High School, Rehabilitation Centre and Junior College for the Deaf.

Dr. P. Dowlath Khan born at Rayachoty in Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh on 10.05.1962 to Late P. Khader Vali Khan and Smt. P. Ramiza Bee. He studied M.A. (Sociology), M.Ed., M.Ed. (HI), PGDPPM, Ph.D. (HI). He received several awards, appreciations from District, State, Central Governments and other organizations. With the hard work and dedication of Dr. P. Dowlath Khan this Primary School has became High School, Rehabilitation Centre and Junior College for the Deaf. In the year 2006 First Junior College for the Deaf in Rayalaseema Region is started in this organization. Now our organization wants to start First Degree College with B.Com., and B.A., Courses for Hearing Impaired Persons in Rayalaseema Region from the academic year 2016-17.

Under the Manpower Development our organization is conducting D.Ed. Spl. Ed. (HI), B.Ed. Spl. Ed. (HI) and B.Ed. (SE-DE) H.I. Teachers’ Training Courses. In the year 1997-98 our organization had started D.Ed. Spl. Edu. (HI) Teachers Training Course. In the year 2002 our organization has started B.Ed. (SE-DE) HI Distance mode course. Which is jointly sponsored by RCI and MPBOU. This course functioned upto 2008. In the year 2006 our organization has started B.Ed. Spl. Edu. (HI) Regular Course. Our organization is also started B.Ed. (SE-DE) HI Distance mode course from the academic year 2010-11. Which is jointly sponsored by RCI and DBRAOU.

Activities of our Organization :

Our Institution has conducted several times Free Speech and Hearing Medical Camps and Awareness Exhibitions on Hearing Impairment in Kadapa, Anantapuram and Nellore Districts. Our Institution has distributed Hearing Aids free of cost to identified poor and needy Hearing Impaired Persons in the above camps.

Every year on June 27 our organization is conducting Helen Keller’s Birth Day Celebration. In this occasion our organization is presenting “Helen Keller Vikalanga Vidhyarthula Prathibha Awards” to Hearing Impaired, Visually Impaired and Orthopedically Handicapped students who secured highest marks in 10th and Intermediate Public Examinations in Kadapa District. Every year on 3rd December our organization is conducting International Day of the Disabled. In this occasion our organization is conducting “District Level Talent Search Competitions” such as Painting Competitions to Hearing Impaired students, Elocution Competition to Visually Impaired Students, Essay Writing Competitions to Orthopedically Handicapped Students and Patriotic Songs to Mentally Retarded Students. Prizes and Certificates are presented to the winners in the above competitions in International Day of the Disabled Celebration. Every year our organization is conducting District Level Games and Sports Competitions to Hearing Impaired Students.

Awards and Appreciations received by our organization :

In recognition of our organization’s best services in the year 2002 Govt. of Andhra Pradesh has awarded state award for Best Individual working for the cause of Disabled Children to our Ex. General Secretary cum Correspondent Late Smt. P. Ramiza Bee. The Govt. of Andhra Pradesh has awarded State Award for Best Institution 2004 to our Institution. The Govt. of India has awarded National Award for Child Welfare - 2006 to our organization. Recently on 03.12.2015 Government of Andhra Pradesh has awarded Best Individual working for the cause of persons with disabilities to our General Secretary cum Correspondent Dr. P. Dowlath Khan. Several times different District Collector’s are awarded Prashamsa Patrams to our organization and our Gen. Secretary cum Correspond Dr. P. Dowlath Khan. He also received Jewel of India Award, Indira Gandhi Excellency Award, Rastriya Samman Award, Best Educationalist Award etc.,

Mission :

To sensitize the general public, Govt., non Govt., parents of disabled children and to provide quality of Primary Education and Higher Education to the disabled children.

And to run manpower and research development programme in the field of disability rehabilitation.
